Week Four: Why College? Serious Considerations...

Monday (08.29.22): Please take time today to work on any makeup work you might have from the past few weeks. 

Tuesday (08.30.22): View video "Dropouts vs. Graduates" and respond to questions in TEAMS - due in TEAMS tomorrow! 

Wednesday (08.31.22): Let's discuss the debate between graduates and dropouts, and make sure your responses are correct in TEAMS. 

Thursday (09.01.22): Today, we will begin considering the process of picking a major for college. This process causes many young people much stress!

Friday (09.02.22): Please take time to complete the assignment in TEAMS. Link available below. This is due today. Good luck. 

The video linked to the right is short, but full of interesting people and thoughts concerning attending college, student motivation, challenges, successes and failures. Please answer questions in TEAMS as you view. 

It is challenging for most college students to select a major field of study. There is so much pressure put on this decision.

Please take time to review the website linked to the right and complete the questions in TEAMS. This will count as an "Assessment Grade," so make sure to take your time with this one.

We will take two days, Monday and Tuesday, this week to consider many statistics concerning college students. Please take time to complete the assignment posted to right. This will help me decide what curriculum to create for the rest of the semester. Thank you!

Week Six: First Generation College Experiences

Monday (02.07.22): Discuss U.S. statistics concerning college students' success, failure, and dropout rates. Introduce project. 

Tuesday (02.08.22): Begin viewing "A Mile in My Shoes" in class today. Discuss. Review assignment in TEAMS. Due Friday.

Wednesday (02.09.22): Finish viewing "A Mile in My Shoes" at beginning of class. Discuss. Review assignment in TEAMS. 

Thursday (02.10.22):  Take class time to work on project. Due tomorrow! 

Friday (02.11.22): Project due today! Please take time to get this done well. We will discuss your responses Monday.

We will take time in class to review the video linked to right. This is a great series. This film in particular focuses on several first generation college students and shares their experiences. I'm hoping that some of you might relate to at least a couple of these stories.

Week Seven: Challenges of Collegiate Life

Monday (02.14.22): Please take class time today to complete your project from last week. It was due Friday, but many of you need to finish it. 

Tuesday (02.15.22): Let's discuss the timeline for applying to college. Read "12th Grade College Prep List" and complete questions in TEAMS.

Wednesday (02.16.22): Continue working on "12th Grade College Prep List" in TEAMS. Due today. Discuss different types of loans for college.

Thursday (02.17.22):  Discuss the upcoming FAFSA requirement... October 1st! Review federal website for student aid. 

Friday (02.18.22): Makeup day for everyone! Please take time to work on any missing assignments from the 3rd Grading Quarter.

We will be discussing federal student aid this week, including how and when to complete the FAFSA requirements, as well as considering different types of loans and grants available. 

Week Eight: FAFSA and TN Promise

Monday (02.21.22): Today, we will be hearing from one of our most experienced guidance counselors Mrs. Fleming. Q and A session! 

Tuesday (02.22.22): Take "College Readiness Assessment for Review" in class today. Submit by Wednesday. This counts as a test grade.

Wednesday (02.23.22): Complete "College Readiness Assessment for Review" and submit before leaving for a test grade. 

Thursday (02.24.22):  Take time in class today to create an account with TN Promise... https://www.tn.gov/tnpromise.html

Friday (02.25.22): Complete assignment "TN Promise Checklist" in TEAMS. Due today before leaving. 

Early this week you will be taking the assessment posted to the left. The purpose of this assessment is to give you the opportunity to tell me what you have retained from this unit concerning college readiness.

Please use the link to right to complete the "TN Promise Senior Checklist in TEAMS. TN Promise money applies, not only to community college,  but also to trade school! So, for those of you interested in either option, you really need to know this information!
